Winter heaters ready for distribution

As winter arrives, this is the area of most critical need right now. NESSL has renewed its Appeal for Aid through 2018 to assist displaced people in Syria with rent payments, fuel, electricity, cooking gas, water, and heat.  These funds also provide psychosocial services and spiritual support. There are scholarships and tuition assistance  for students attending NESSL schools.

We hope to raise $1.5 Million to be administered through a network of 19 church locations across Syria. Aid is delivered with a priority for those most in need and is not based on religion.

The SLPN supports five schools that the National Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon has been opening throughout Lebanon, with hopes to expand and open more locations. Past Projects

A committee of SLPN and Iraq Partnership Network members developed two overtures that were adopted by the June 2016 PCUSA General Assembly:

  • "Upholding Peoples and Partners in the Middle East and in the United States” seeks long-term stability in the Middle East through peace-building, nurturing of institutions that promote civil society, and strategies that promote inclusive economic development, by working through expanded collaborative relationships between PC(USA) congregations and the National Evangelical Synod of Syria and Lebanon, our Presbyterian partner in the region, and other partner organizations.
  • "On Responding to Our Sisters and Brothers Who Are Refugees or Internally Displaced” urges the GA to advocate for a shortened refugee processing period, increased federal funding for services for an expanded number of refugees, and increased funding for services for refugees remaining in Syria and Lebanon, including trauma services for children.

Please pray for the successful implementation of these Overtures by the national denomination, our country and the international community.
